Baldinger's Food from All Nations
(especially candy!)
22105 Perry Highway (Intersection of Route 19 & 528) [map]  Phone: 724-452-9310

Old-fashioned candy and specialty-foods store in Zelienople. With more than 100 types of penny candy and two cash registers that are more than a century old.  Cash and checks only.

A charming and unique place to visit, Baldinger’s Market, just south of Zelienople has a colorful history. In 1933 Allen Baldinger sold his stamp collection in order to finance a stand along the Rt 19 featuring local fruits and vegetables. As time went on, he added a restaurant, but in 1975 when he considered renovating the restaurant, he realized that there were 42 restaurants along Route 19. He immediately changed his mind and instead added bulk candy. The result is the Baldinger’s Market that is the highlight of many a trip to Zelienople.

Featured on CBS Sunday Morning, the Food Network Channel, and numerous times on local television stations, Baldinger’s takes you back in time with wooden floors, a crank cash register, no calculators, no credit cards and no air conditioning. One can find foods from around the world, candy ranging from a huge array of penny candy, to hard to find sweets from years gone by, as well as one of the largest selections of cookie cutters anywhere! Baldinger’s also carries a large variety of Matrioshka (nesting dolls) and ornaments.

Baldingers is moving to a new location just south of downtown Zelienople, next to the Exxon Station, the move was possible thanks to a resident who decided to save the business that was about to close, after one of the owners passed away. The shop will be rebuilt to match the previous building as much as possible and should be opening in June, 2008.

- KDKA TV / Dave Crawley did a segment on Baldingers Candy Store.
- See the Baldinger's (5 Mb) video as seen on CBS News Sunday Morning.
