Located in southeastern Butler County. Parallels
State Route 356 from the borough of Freeport, Armstrong County North
West to the city of Butler. The completed 16 mile section has a
smooth compacted crushed limestone base suitable for road bikes
and passes through the towns of Laneville, Monroe, Sarver, Marwood,
Great Belt and Herman.
Southern trailhead along Main Street in Laneville, just west of
Freeport. A three mile section is paved through the village of Laneville
with a trailhead parking lot under the Rt. 128 bridge. Monroe trailhead
at Monroe Road, four trail miles north of Laneville. The next trailhead
is three trail miles north at Sarver where a large parking area
is along the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Station on Sarver Road.
About three trail miles north at the village of Cabot is a second
large parking area along the Cabot-Winfield Road. There is also
parking available another trail mile north at Marwood. About a mile
and a half north of Marwood, parking is also available on Jones
Road.

in neighboring Lawrence County. It is part of the park system
that includes Moraine State Park and Jennings Environmental Center.
McConnell's Mill offers hiking trails, white water for kayaking,
cliffs for rock climbing in Slippery Rock gorge.

Moraine State Park features 3,225-
acre Lake Arthur, an outstanding warm water fishery and great sailing
and boating. Visitors sometimes see osprey that were reintroduced
to the park. Of special interest is the Frank Preston Conservation
Area and a 7-mile paved bike trail that winds through the north
shore of the lake. The park also provides horseback, hiking, mountain
biking, and snowmobiling trails. Swimming is popular at the two
park beaches. During the winter season, ice boating, sledding, skating,
cross-country skiing and ice fishing are popular.

the spectacular wooded trails along the Porter Cover area.

North Country Trail Association

The North Country National Scenic Trail stretches
from Adirondack Park in eastern New York state to Lake Sakakawea
in western North Dakota. Built and maintained primarily by
volunteers of the North Country Trail Association, its planned route
of 4,625 miles will make it the longest of the country's eight National
Scenic Trails.
The North Country Trail in Pennsylvania runs from
the Allegheny National Forest southwest to the border with Ohio.
Our section of the NCT begins at Pleasant Valley Road and
continues through PA State Game Lands 95 to the Old Stone House
on PA State Route 8.
