Northern Nightmares Halloween Festival
Zelienople, PA 16063, Phone:
724-742-0400Visit us online at:
http://www.northernnightmares.com
OCTOBER: Friday and Saturday
Nights Starting October 5.
The festival is a month-long, family-friendly
program that focuses more on fun than fright,
although a few chills and thrills are in the works.
Proceeds from the festival will benefit the group’s
“Drive to Revive” Zelienople’s landmark former
cinema as a performing arts, education and community
outreach center. Northern Nightmares will run every
Friday and Saturday night in October, starting on
Friday, October 5th.
Rather than a single
attraction, Northern Nightmares will offer a variety
of activities, most of which are free to the public.
THE NORTHERN
NIGHTMARES “UN”-BEAUTY PAGEANT – As an added bonus,
a costume pageant for children and young adults age
3 – 18 will take place under The Solid Mold Dancers
Tent in the community park on Saturday, October 20th.
Pageant forms may be completed prior to the event,
but walk-ups will be welcomed as well. Trophies and
other prizes will be awarded to winners in various
age-groups.
THE NIGHTMARE TOUR,
$8 per person – Patrons will "climb aboard" a
Lenzner Motor Coach Trollery and visit creepy places
and spooky locales between Zelienople and Harmony.
The Nightmare Tour Guide will spin terrifying tales
centered around the various stops along the way.
The final stop will be at The Strand, where riders
will disembark and come face to face with the
dreaded “Ghost of The Strand”, a terrifying - and
completely fictitious - spectre that haunts the
hollowed out theater. Scheduled departures are
Friday and Saturday nights at 6:30pm, 7:30pm, 8:30
and 9:30pm. Each tour lasts about 45 minutes.
THE SOLID “MOLD”
DANCERS, Free – Dance schools, musical groups and
performance artists will be featured in Zelienople’s
community park at Rt. 68 and Main St (Where the
Santa House is stationed). These groups will
present Halloween-themed programs to entertain
Halloween celebrants and passersby! Performances
begin at approximately 6:15 and run until about 9pm
each Friday and Saturday night.
CHILLER THEATER, Free
– Remember those classic monster movies that your
parents forbade you to watch, but you did anyway?
And then you couldn’t sleep for a week? Well, you
can relive those fond childhood memories as Chiller
Theater returns to Beecher’s Gelato & Gourmet
Coffee. Zelienople’s hip and happening café will
project these frightfully fun creature features from
its balcony level, ‘We’re very grateful to the
generous folks at WPXI, Channel 11, Pittsburgh for
allowing us the use of the ‘Chiller Theater’ title,
which adds that much more fun and authenticity to
our classic monster movie series”, added Carter.
Double Features will run each Friday and Saturday
night at 7pm and 9pm.
At this time, tickets
for the Nightmare Bus Tour will only be available on
a first-come, first serve basis. So get there early
and enjoy all the other activities being planned for
Northern Nightmares. All the “gory” details will be
posted on the Northern Nightmares web site,
www.NorthernNightmares.com.

"I’m a huge fan of this holiday," said Ron Carter,
President of the non-profit theater group, "So
developing this festival was sheer pleasure. My
kids grew up with cemeteries cropping up in the
front yard and zombies crawling across the kitchen
floor at this time of year. But it’s all in fun and
we are having a great time putting together this
year’s festival.”
